How To Get A Residential Building Permit In Collier County

Do you need a residential building permit in Collier County for new construction, additions, or alterations to you existing Marco Island area property? Collier County offers detailed instructions for the process on its website.

Make sure to completely fill out the residential building permit. That means all of the spaces on the first page should be filled in. Be sure to initial where space is provided on page two of the Collier County building permit. Be sure to sign and have the contractor notarize the Acknowledgement on page three as well. People often forget to include items like electrical amperage, base flood elevation, water meter size, lot size and A/C tonnage. So, be sure to include those things if you want to be issued a residential building permit in Collier County. One family dwellings and duplexes require three complete sets of construction plans to be submitted with the permit application.

Now, let’s say that you’re trying to build an addition to a home in the Vineyards, Berkshire Lakes, Audubon, Grey Oaks, or Orange Tree. Collier County requires that you include drainage plans approved by the developer with the building permit package. If you’re building an addition anywhere in the county, you’ll need to submit a sealed boundary survey with the permit package showing all easements. If you’re installing a septic tank in Collier County though, the Collier County Health Department also needs a copy of the survey now.

By the way, if the building or property isn’t serviced by the Collier County Utilities Division, you must submit a Flow Letter before they’ll issue you a permit.
